City of Penticton Civic Places and Spaces

Challenge

With many of their assets, including critical infrastructure for water, electricity, and public spaces nearing the end of their service life and the cost of maintaining them becoming increasingly expensive, the City of Penticton faced a problem. They recognized that raising taxes would not be a sustainable solution and instead sought to create a long-term, fiscally responsible plan that would maintain service quality while managing costs.

TWG was hired to develop a public service campaign to inform the public of the City’s asset management plan. This included project branding and the creation of an engaging and informative infographic campaign to explain the scope, and outline potential outcomes such as repairing, replacing, or selling city assets. The goal was to ensure residents understood the City’s approach to balancing costs while maintaining quality services.

Our Approach

We began by crafting a distinct brand for the “Civic Places and Spaces” initiative, ensuring it tied into Penticton’s municipal identity. Using the same color palette as the City’s municipal brand, the visual identity is recognizable as a City of Penticton initiative but can stand alone as well and clearly conveys the projects focus on asset management effectively.

Working closely with municipal staff, our team gathered the necessary information and began planning how to communicate the complex details in a clear and engaging way. We developed a series of roadmap infographics and a video that highlighted key stages of the asset management process. The infographics guided residents through the City’s plan, explaining the reasoning behind it and highlighting the benefits of the initiative.

Result

The final campaign provided the City of Penticton with an engaging and comprehensible illustration of its “Civic Places and Spaces” initiative. The infographics and video simplified complex financial and operational issues, making them easy for residents to understand, fostering buy-in from the community for strategic asset management and long-term sustainable planning. They were integrated into public meetings, online platforms, and promotional efforts, driving awareness and engagement for the initiative.
